This little crocodile is a rig I created for a Disney Research project. Although relatively simple, this rig contains the necessary components to perform quickly in Maya and efficiently within the Unity engine. Since the croc's tail stands out as one of its most characteristic features, I placed a lot of care on creating an FK/IK hybrid system to weild some really nice results. Being one of my favotite features for this rig, a curling control allows the animator the ability to automatically curl the entire tail rather than selecting each of its individual FK controls. The tail is able to achieve a wide array of curling motions.
The croc's small legs proved to be a bit challenging due to spacial restrictions, but nevertheless, I encorporated a number of foot rolling features and individual toe controls to provide the animator with multiple options when creating walk or swim cycles. Furthermore, I encorporated controls for scapula/femur movement to help create more dynamic poses. This character overall was a lot of fun to rig.
